Leonberger Description

The Leonberger is a muscular, large breed of dog with a rectangular shaped head. The muzzle is long and they generally have a black mask effect, the nose is also black. They tend to look like lions as their heads and faces are very majestic and proud in appearance, their ears are pendant styled and triangular in shape. Their coat is water resistant and medium length to long; they have the unusual feature of webbed feet making them excellent swimmers. Coat colours vary and include golden, red, cream, sand and pale yellow.

Leonberger Character

Gentle giants are perfect words to describe the Leonberger as they have great patience and especially so with children. They are affectionate and calm, showing bravery and great intelligence. Leonbergers possess friendly natures and are extremely loyal to their family, they are also a lively breed but not requiring hours and hours of exercise they enjoy swimming and a daily walk. This breed loves being part of a family environment and in the middle of everything! They are just so placid, their size can be a good deterrent as a watchdog and they can be wary of strangers but do not expect them to show any significant aggression as a watchdog, they are way to easy going for that.
