Icelandic Sheepdog Description

The Icelandic Sheepdog is a medium sized compact breed of dog. It is a Spitz type of dog with a gorgeous feathered tail carried high over the dog’s back. The ears are set high and erect. There are two varieties of coat, short and long, both are thick. They come in an array of colours, most seen with white, including sable, reds, browns, blacks and greys.

Icelandic Sheepdog Character

This breed has a beautiful gentle expression and is very intelligent and tough by nature it can be stubborn, making training a challenge. They adore children and love being part of the family. Icelandic Sheepdogs are alert and lively and require a lot of exercise. They are Iceland’s only native dog and used for herding in the mountains. They are friendly and inquisitive and make wonderful companions.
