Griffon Description

Griffon is a small set and compact breed of dog with a Pug-like face, they have a tail which is high set coupled with ears which are also high set and semi-pendant styled. They have beautiful, small soft brown eyes and short but solid legs. Their coat can be either smooth and short or wiry and rough, colours include black, red, reddish-brown and tan.

Griffon Character

The Griffon was originally bred to be employed as a ‘ratter’ throughout stables in the 19th century, they can be feisty at times but not aggressive and they are intelligent but also can have a stubborn streak. A firm but kind training approach is required. The Griffon is an alert and fairly lively breed they are friendly but due to their feisty nature are not advised for younger children, they can accept other smaller pets with the proper introduction but due to their ‘ratter’ tendencies caution is advised. Their wariness of strangers and big vocal abilities make them a moderate to good watchdog.
