Pharaoh Hound Description

The Pharaoh Hound is a graceful and athletic hound with a wedge shaped head and fairly long muzzle, their nose is usually the same colour as their coat and they have a deep chest, their tail is tapering and generally carried low. The ears are large and stand erect and their coat is sleek and short and can be either red or tan with or without white markings.

Pharaoh Hound Character

Pharaoh Hounds are independent, free spirits whilst remaining loyal to their family. They are brave and affectionate and are good with children but can be a bit ‘full-on’ for smaller ones. They are reserved around strangers making them a fairly good watchdog but they are generally not aggressive so will be too friendly to make an excellent watchdog. One truly unusual and unique feature of the Pharaoh Hound is that they actually blush, when the dog becomes excited its nose and ears glow a deep, rose red. They are a very energetic breed with the ability to read their owner’s mind therefore they always seem to know exactly what their owner is going to do before they do it! The Pharaoh Hound has a high chase instinct and prey drive so unless they are introduced to smaller animals at an early age it is not advised they are allowed around them.
