German Wirehaired Pointer Description

The German Wirehaired Pointer has a distinctive ‘wiry’ looking coat, a muscular body with the body seeming longer than taller. The muzzle is long and they have a lovely moustache and beard, the pendant ears are fairly long and the eyes are almond shaped and small. The tail is high set and their coat has the added advantage of being weather resistant, colours include solid liver and white and liver which can be spotted.

German Wirehaired Pointer Character

The first point to make is that the German Wirehaired Pointer is an easily bored breed of dog and likes to be active, if they do not receive the exercise they need they have a tendency to become strong willed and to roam. They are affectionate, loyal and very intelligent if their high energy levels can be correctly channelled into training they will excel as they love to please. They are friendly but wary of strangers therefore making good watchdogs; they can be a bit too much of a handful for younger/smaller children due to their lively natures. If they receive firm but kind training they will generally accept other household pets well.
