American Hairless Terrier Description

The American Hairless Terrier has the appearance of the Rat Terrier from which it descends, for a smaller breed it is a muscular dog with a neck that is solid and chest that is very deep. The legs are surprisingly powerful and they have gorgeous bat-like ears which can stand up erect depending on the dog’s alertness. Their tail is long and resembles a snake, it is generally carried low but not between the hind legs unless obviously the dog is nervous. The skin colouration can vary from pink and black through to grey and can also be spotted with red or golden shades.

American Hairless Terrier Character

The American Hairless Terrier has a larger than life character being playful and alert most of the time; they are known to be extremely loving and affectionate dogs. Their nature is typically terrier which means they never seem to stop and they appear to be fearless; they can be very territorial which in turn makes them good watch/guard dogs. One of the main points with the American Hairless Terrier to always remember is their vulnerability due to their lack of fur. They have to be protected against sunburn and kept warm and dry in the winter, you can apply special lotions to moisturise their skin if required. The up side of no fur is no shedding and no fleas, the perfect breed of dog for allergy sufferers. Due to their terrier traits they are not usually recommended to house with smaller animals unless properly introduced from an early age.
