Akita Description
The Akita ( Japanese) is a very powerful and muscular breed of dog with a big, heavy, wedge-shaped head and muzzle. Its ears seem small in comparison to the rest of the dog and stand fully erect, they are triangular in shape. The Akita stands with much dignity about it and is a truly stunning dog to behold. Their tail is fluffy and always carried up and over their back, they have a dense, plush coat. The muzzle is always black and gives the appearance of the dog wearing a mask. Colour variations are white, cream, brown, red or blue.Akita Character
The Akita is not the breed for a novice owner, they are an extremely independent dog that can be very dominant. They are intelligent but also very bossy, they enjoy being in charge. The Akita needs firm handling when training but having said this they do not react well to a harsh training regime. Coercive training is the way to go with this breed, firm but kind. They are a very loyal and courageous dog. Please note: This is only a guide.
