Make These Easy And Healthy Dog Treats In Just 3 Minutes

An adult dog’s diet SHOULD consist of at least 20% vegetables. Vegetables are an excellent source of fibre, vitamins and essential minerals and must be included in the daily meal plan. Most owners however don’t have enough time to make homemade dog food and rely on the packaged stuff.

While rich in minerals and vitamins, packaged dog food can fall behind.

To compensate, owners can add much needed vitamins and minerals to their pet’s daily diets by adding the following easy home cooked snacks. Only a little effort is required to make these healthy dog treats!

Simple and Delicious Apple Crisp Treats

These dog treats are not only incredibly easy to make, but also very delicious and super nutritious.

Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples–peeled, cored and sliced into 3/8’’ slices
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F before doing anything else. Take a small bowl and combine water and lemon juice. Then place the apple slices in this. Each side should be soaked for 4 minutes.

Take the apple slices out and place on a baking sheet (lined with wax paper). Dust cinnamon on top of the slices and let bake for at least 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Turn off the oven, but don’t take the tray out for another 10 minutes.

Storage Time:

These treats can be stored for 1 week in the refrigerator and for up to 2 months in the freezer.

Healthy and Chewy Sweet Potato Jerky

Incredibly high in folate, calcium, potassium and beta-carotene, this treat is healthy as it is delicious. Sweet potato jerky is also an excellent snack for senior pets as its low on the glycemic index.

Total Time: 3.30 hours

Ingredients:

  • 1 sweet potato (or yam)–washed and peeled.
  • Peanut butter.

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 250°F and place potato or yam slices (sliced into half inches) into a baking sheet. Bake the slices for 3.25 hours and then remove completely to let the tray cool. Smear in peanut butter when giving this treat to your dog.

Storage Time:

These treats can be stored in the fridge for 2 weeks. You can also store in freezer for 4 months.

Delicious Oatmeal Dog Treats

Oatmeal is good for humans as well as dogs! It helps support the intestinal tract, as the body part removes toxins from inside it. Adding collards and other greens when preparing the oatmeal treats will act as an additional power boost of fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphate and omega fatty acids!

Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups uncooked oatmeal
  • 1 ½ cup of cold water
  • ¼ chopped turnip greens or frozen collards
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 egg yolks

Note: you can also add 1, 2/3 cups of wheat flour or rice flour for a gluten-free recipe. Just remove the oatmeal.

Instructions:

First thaw the frozen collard or turnip greens and then mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Place 1-2 tablespoon scoops of the combined mixture onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes. Let it cool.

Storage Time:

This treat can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks OR in the freezer for 4 months.

The above recipes promise great taste and easy to follow instructions. Above all, these homemade treats are full of nutritious goodness and thus far superior from packaged treats.

Okay, the recipes take longer than 3 minutes BUT they can be stored for a longer period of time! All you will need to do is take it out of the refrigerator or freezer, place the treat in your dog’s bowl and whistle. That should take about 3 minutes, right?
